Man’s hand saved after 5-hr rare surgery at GMC Jammu

JAMMU, July 7: In a five-hour long micro-vascular surgery, a team of doctors from Govt Medical College Jammu saved right hand of a labourer from Bajalta.
A handout from GMC Jammu said that the patient namely- Uttam, working as labourer at a sawmill in Bajalta area of Jammu, sustained serious cut injury with the electrical saw on his right hand. His blood vessels, nerves and tendons were badly cut at the fore arm level in the accident. The saturation at the finger level of the patient was zero.
Taking up this as a challenge, the team of doctors headed by Dr Ratnakar Sharma, along with Dr Priyanka, Senior Resident, Dr Vineet Sharma and Dr Suryansh and the team of Anesthesia led by Dr Anita Wig (HOD) and Dr Amanpreet, Senior Resident operated upon the patient last evening for five long hours, repaired the blood vessels, nerves and tendons of the patient, thereby, saving his right hand. Such rare surgeries cost lakhs of rupees in private sector which are done free of cost in the GMC Jammu, the handout said.
