Two die, 727 new cases in J&K

SRINAGAR/JAMMU, July 29: Authorities today ordered suspension of all activities at a Government school in Baramulla in Kashmir valley due to COVID-19 while a few dozen students of a Srinagar girls’ school are also infected with the virus even as 521 people tested positive for the infection in Kashmir and one succumbed to the virus.
The officials in Baramulla ordered suspension of all activities at Government Higher Secondary School Bijhama, Boniyar in Uri area of district Baramulla as 16 students and two teaching staff tested positive for COVID-19 infection in last few days.
The Health officials had carried out sampling of at least 150 individuals at the institute through Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) and RTPCR. “Out of the 150, a report of nearly 100 individuals was received wherein a total of 18 tests, which included 16 students and 2 teachers came positive for the infection”, the official said.
The authorities have ordered suspension for all sorts of activities for tomorrow and asked for fumigation of school.
A few dozen girls of a private school in Srinagar have also tested positive after returning from summer camp. The school had taken hundreds of students for camping to Sonamarg in a few batches but on return maximum students have fallen ill and a couple of dozen have tested positive for COVID during the last few days. However, the school has not suspended its activities but the attendance of students is very thin as the school has asked the parents not to send their children who have taken ill to school.
In the meantime, 521 people from Kashmir today tested positive for the COVID taking the overall tally of the cases in J&K to 463359.
One person died in the Valley taking the overall death toll due to viral infection in J&K to 4768 including 2429 from Valley.
An official said, 572 COVID-19 patients recovered during the last 24 hours including 226 from Kashmir valley. There are now 4468 active cases including 2655 in Kashmir.
Srinagar reported 246 cases, Baramulla 94, Budgam 42, Pulwama 8, Kupwara 49, Anantnag 35, Bandipora 13, Ganderbal 12, Kulgam 21 and Shopian 1.
Meanwhile, one person died of COVID-19 while 206 others tested positive in Jammu division today.
A 78-year-old man hailing from village Kalyana in Arnia tehsil of Jammu district died of co-morbidities and Coronavirus in the Military Hospital Satwari.
This has taken COVID toll in Jammu district to 1231 and Jammu division to 2339.
Among 206 cases in Jammu region, 134 were reported in Jammu district, 19 in Kishtwar, 12 Samba, 10 Rajouri, nine Doda, seven Udhampur, six Poonch, five Kathua, three Ramban and one in Reasi district.
Jammu region now has 1813 active positive cases.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported nine COVID positive cases, all in Leh district.
Ladakh now has 142 active positive cases including 132 in Leh district and 10 in Kargil.
