JAMMU, May 19: Jammu and Kashmir today reported 62 COVID casualties and 3969 fresh cases. Jammu region accounted for 39 deaths and 1375 positives. Significantly, as against 1375 new cases, 1385 persons today recovered from the virus.
Among 39 fatalities in Jammu region, 22 were reported in Jammu district, majority from rural areas, five each in Samba and Kathua districts, two each Reasi, Poonch and Udhampur and one in Rajouri district. Sixteen women were among the dead while three persons succumbed to the virus at home and were brought dead to the Government hospitals.
An ex-serviceman and three kin of Army personnel also died of the virus.
Many young lives were lost to COVID-19 in the Jammu region today.
A 21-year-old pregnant woman from Pouni in Reasi district died of COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. She had no co-morbidity. A 25-year-old youth from Jaganoo in Udhampur district died of the virus at home and was later shifted to the District Hospital (DH) Udhampur. A 32-year-old woman from Kanachak, who was wife of a Naib Subedar of Army posted in Assam, breathed her last in the Military Hospital Satwari due to Coronavirus with no other ailment. A 35-year-old woman from village Balori in Samba district succumbed to the virus at GMC Jammu while 40-year-old woman, who was also kin of an Army personnel, lost her battle to pathogen in the Military Hospital Satwari.
A 36-year-old male from Domana became another young victim of pathogen as he died in the Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar while 43-year-old man from Panjtirthi died in the GMC Jammu having no ailments except COVID-19.
A 55-year-old ex-serviceman hailing from Smailpur Kothe in Bishnah tehsil of Jammu, who was admitted in the Military Hospital Satwari due to stroke, died of Coronavirus. An elderly man from Sool Katra in Reasi district, who was also kin of an Army man, breathed his last in the Command Hospital Udhampur. A 45-year-old woman from Ramgarh in Samba district died in the GMC Jammu due to COVID Pneumonia.
Talab Tillo continued to be hotspot on outskirts of Jammu City reporting three fresh COVID casualties today aged 43, 45 and 58 years. RS Pura also reported two deaths with virus-one each from Chak Mohammad Yar and Phinder, both elderly persons.
In rural areas of Jammu, Corona casualties were reported from Santra Morh, Raipur Satwari, Lale Da Bagh. Kotli Bishnah, Purkhoo and Madwal.
Five deaths in Kathua district were reported from Narayanpur, Hatli Morh, Changi, Chandwan and Jasrota. Deaths of Samba district took place at Jerda Nandpur, Vijaypur and Ramgarh town. Two deaths in Poonch district took place at Sheesh Mahal and Mohra Bachai while one casualty in Rajouri district occurred at Ward No. 9.
Significantly, almost 90 percent casualties in the districts other than Jammu were now being reported from the rural areas, doctors said.
In Jammu district, there was no let up in COVID positive cases in rural areas with 36 more persons getting infected in Kot Bhalwal, 25 Pallanwalla, 22 Sunjwan, 19 each at Akhnoor, Bishnah and Chowki Chowra, 17 Marh and six in RS Pura.
In Udhampur, 34 positive cases each were reported at Tikri and Chenani, 27 Ramnagar, 14 Basantgarh, eight Majalata and eight in Panchari among others.
Thirty nine more COVID fatalities have taken Jammu region’s Corona toll to 1571, the maximum 884 being in Jammu district, 143 Rajouri, 108 Kathua, 106 Udhampur, 92 Samba, 75 Doda, 68 Poonch, 43 Ramban and 26 each in Kishtwar and Reasi districts.
Meanwhile, SHO of a Police Station in Jammu City East Division was among dozen police personnel who have tested positive for COVID-19 taking number of active positive cops to 60.
Seven doctors in different parts of the region have also tested positive for the virus.
Among 1375 positive cases, 493 were reported from Jammu district, 158 in Kathua, 154 Udhampur, 142 Rajouri, 112 Samba, 106 Poonch, 68 Ramban, 64 Doda, 53 Reasi and 25 in Kishtwar district.
As many as 1385 persons today recovered from the virus, the maximum 492 in Jammu district, 231 Kathua, 171 Ramban, 129 Reasi, 128 Rajouri, 112 Udhampur, 101 Poonch and 21 in Doda district.
Jammu region now has 99192 Corona cases including 20972 active positives while 76649 have recovered from the virus and there have been 1571 casualties.
Meanwhile, as per District Magistrate Jammu Anshul Garg’s order, some shops opened in curfew-bound areas for stock checking from 3 pm to 5 pm today. Some other shops will open for same duration during the same timing tomorrow.
The DC had ordered that shopkeepers as per their shift can open shops on Wednesday and Thursday from 3 pm to 5 pm for stock checking but their will be no commercial transactions.
