RAMBAN, Sept 15: The newly constructed 400 meter long Maroog Tunnel, New Tunnel-1 (NT1) and a 250 meters viaduct of four-lane project near the tunnel were opened for two-way traffic on trial basis.
Engineers of the company engaged with the construction works by NHAI informed this adding that all the traffic was diverted through the newly constructed tunnel.
They said that expansion work on the old road alignment of two-lane road stretch in Maroog has been started.
Officials said that traffic was diverted through the newly constructed tunnel near Sitaram Passi, Maroog.
However, it was not officially announced by the authorities.
The 250-meter viaducts and 400-meter-long tunnels were constructed at landslide and shooting stones-prone Maroog area of Ramban after the realignment of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44).
Earlier during rainy season, road blockade and traffic jams remained routine affair at Maroog.
After opening of the tunnel commuters and drivers would get relief from routine traffic congestion and it will also help in reducing road accidents on this stretch.
