The mortal remains of Hav Abdul Majid of 9 PARA (SF), who attained martyrdom along with four other Army personnel in Kalakote Bajimaal encounter, arrived at ALG Ground Poonch around 10 am and after performing wreath laying ceremony by the top Army officers as per military protocols, the mortal remains were then moved to martyr’s village.
Wrapped in tri-colour and kept in a decorated Army vehicle, the martyr’s mortal remains arrived Ajote at 11 am. Hundreds of youth in the form of a bike/car rally escorted the decorated Army vehicle up to village Ajote, chanting loud slogans “Shaheed Abdul Majid Amar Rahe”, “Indian Army Zindabad” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.
Army officers handed over the Tricolour to the martyr’s wife. Army jawans presented a guard of honour to the departed soul. A very emotional and heart-rending scene was witnessed at the house of martyr where a large number of villagers and men in uniform from his Army Unit had gathered to pay their last respects. Many were in tears while others tried to make their way through a crowd of hundreds who had gathered to catch the last glimpse of the ‘brave son of the soil’.
The elderly parents of the martyr, his wife, a younger brother and three children including two sons aged 12 and 8 years and a 5-year-old daughter made everyone in tears. The shattered children stretched out their hands to touch the face of their father, who was laid in a coffin, wrapped in National flag. Standing next to the kids, their shell shocked mother was in disbelief at her husband’s lifeless face held between her hands before she broke down.
BJP president Ravinder Raina, DC Poonch Yasin Mohd Choudhary, SSP Poonch Vinay Sharma, Brigadier Rajesh Bisht (GOC, Northern Command HQ, Brigadier 93 Infantry) among other top officials of Army, Police and Civil administration, besides political and religious leaders paid homage to the soldier at his native place.
Recalling the last time visit of his son at home, the martyr’s father said he is proud of his son. “I am proud of my son. He was a brave soldier, who laid down his life while fighting terrorists in Kalakote forests. I am ready to sacrifice even my younger son for the service of nation,” he said while interacting with the DC and SSP Poonch, who met him at his residence and expressed sympathies.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Ravinder Raina said the supreme sacrifice of Hav Abdul Majid cannot be forgotten. He strongly condemned the cowardly attack by the terrorists and said that his martyrdom will never go in vain. He added that Pakistan and its sponsored terrorists are trying to disturb the atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir but they would be neutralized soon.
