Martyrdom Day of Guru Arjun Dev observed across J&K

JAMMU, June 12: Martyrdom Day of  fifth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Arjun Dev ji was observed with religious fervor and devotion across the State today.
To mark the day, the Sikh Sangat thronged all the major Gurudwaras of the Jammu and offered special prayers. The Sikh religious places including Gurdwaras at Nanak Nagar, Digiana, Rehari Chungi, Jain Bazar, Talab Tillo, Gole Gujral besides other places including Kathua, Udhampur, Poonch, Rajbagh, Batote and Srinagar witnessed large gathering. Chabeel’s of cold and sweet water had been installed to offer cold water to the general public. Even Langars had also been organized at some places for the public by the Management Committees of these religious places.
In this connection an impressive Kirtan Darbar was organised by Parbandhak Committee of Gurdwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji, at Jain Bazar Jammu today. Sikh Sangat from various parts of Old City participated in the `Kirtan’.
Several religious personalities including Bhai Gurpreet Singh  and Bhai Rangil Singh and Bibi Harpreet Kour recited the  `Shabd Kirtan’ and highlighted the martyrdom of Shri Guru Arjun Dev ji Maharaj for the country.
The Sikh Sangat on this occasion strongly demanded that Government should declare Gazetted holiday on the Martyrdom Day of  Guru Arjun Dev Ji and Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. They said both the Sikh Gurus sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation and its people. Nirbair social organization also demanded that State Government should declare holiday on the Martyr Day of the great Guru.
Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee Udhampur also organized a function to mark the Martyrdom Day of Guru Arjun Devji at Gurdwara Singh Sabha today. Sikh Sangat in large number assembled at Mukherjee Bazar Gurudwara and offered special prayers on the day since early morning today. The function commenced with Akhand Path and Shabd Kirtan of Gurbani. Traditional Shabeel was organised for the public.
Meanwhile, to mark the day 137 Bn of  CRPF, Army, police and local Sangat  organised a Shabeel  at Gurudwara Teg Bahadur  at Moara Morh Udhampur today. Policemen from Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy also actively participated. 166 Bn of CRPF also organized martyrs day function at Bn hadquarters Chhani Himmat Jammu. The unit distributed Parsad and cold sweet water among the local public. Commadant of the unit Dinesh Kumar Singh was also present on the occasion.
