Martyrs’ families rehabilitation

Fighting terrorism is not everyone’s cup of tea, specifically so when your neighbour dreams of disintegrating your country with terrorism as State policy but Jammu and Kashmir is one such UT which has been bravely confronting Pakistan sponsored terrorism for more than three decades and still counting. Thanks to Jammu and Kashmir Police for their dedication, valour and intent to fight terrorism tooth and nail, in toughest possible terrain, be it snow clad mountains or dense forest area or right upto the border areas with cross border guns blazing. Salute to the sacrifices of our 1604 police jawans who had fallen in the line of duty, for which entire nation will remainin debted to them. Mere words and Independence Day or Republic Day felicitations can never be enough for their supreme sacrifices to make ordinary citizens safe and sound. All the families of these fallen police personals are responsibility of the administration more specifically JKP. Mere payment of gratuity or provident funds cannot be substitute for their lifelong losses and problem is much more serious and complicated as all these martyrs mainly belong to rural areas and wives are mere housewives only as such least exposure to the hard life and taking care of young children especially their education and subsequently career guidance is simply too much asking for the lone surviving parent. Parenting is not a one day job but continuous day to day struggle for these unfortunate ladies. Though Jammu and Kashmir Police, being a professional task force, is taking care of the families yet much more has to be done. Money and scholarships are of no use in the absence of proper counselling and guidance. Problem is that police jawans spend most of their time serving far away from their native places as such no good education or career prospects for their children residing at native places and this problem becomes of titanic proportion with inability to pay hefty private school fee and inability to move them to urban areas because of cost of living in big cities.True tribute to the families will be to accommodate all of them in specifically built gated societies with complete facilities at one centralised location or at district headquarters. Getting flat accommodation of 300 odd families at different locations built for these 1700 odd families is not so big an issue as different corporate can finance under Corporate Social Responsibility. Our administration has rightly taken the initiative to train and guide the students for skill development in school level itself. Over the passage of time these kids will develop the required expertise and as such easily employable. Families of martyrs don’t want charities but just enough automatic support system to polish their skills and flourish in rest of their lives. NRLM, Umeed, Mission Youth, Parwaaz and Udaan can be of immense help to these kids as IAS/IPS and Pilot trainings are being provided which can be life changing help and guidance to these children. Big corporate have to come forward voluntarily or else Government can sign MoU with big industries established in our UT to sponsor as many as possible children for their education and subsequent their placement, it should not be treated just as an order but must be initiated on their own. IT companies can adopt these children bearing every expense till they grow up and get employed. J&K Police Wives Association has a specific role to play, as mentor of these families, leading from the front, encouraging, guiding and taking care of them, after all they are their own families and efforts must be coordinated and are much appreciated. It’s not just posthumous medals and felicitations, we really care for them and salute to their extreme sacrifices but the real tribute will be to get these families live and settle with dignity and their kids equally successful as our own. LG has shown us the path, rest of us have to follow it, in letter and spirit.
