NEW DELHI, Aug 8: World renowned icon and winner of several national and international awards, Mary Kom called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed several political issues related to Northeast.
Mary Kom, who was recently nominated as the member of the Rajya Sabha and whom the State Government of Assam has appointed the Brand Ambassador, gave Dr Jitendra Singh her assessment and perspective of the political scene in the region. She also offered inputs regarding the emerging political equations in the run-up to the State Assembly Elections in the region next year, followed by the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
Dr Jitendra Singh complimented Mary Kom for the keen interest taken by her in the political activities, more so after her nomination as the member of Rajya Sabha. He also appreciated her deep involvement both as a political representative from Northeast as well as Brand Ambassador of the State of Assam.
Referring to her as an icon for the youth, Dr Jitendra Singh said, a self-made person like her could serve as the best source of inspiration for the aspirational youth of India. He said, the manner in which Mary Kom had worked hard and struggled her way to reach the top, was a message that the youth of India was full of potential and talent, and could become achievers in spite of all the odds and lack of avenues.
Regarding the promotional work being done by Mary Kom for the country as a whole and Northeast in particular, Dr Jitendra Singh also invited her to visit the other peripheral States of India like, for example, Jammu & Kashmir where youth are now increasingly reaching out to realize their talent and potential like their counterparts and peers in other parts of the country.
