SRINAGAR, July 28: NC leader and MP Hasnain Masoodi raised the issue of alarming air pollution in Khrew-Wuyan area, in the Lok Sabha today.
He stated that due to emissions from half a dozen cement plants in Khrew-Wuyan, air pollution in the area has reached menacing proportions.
“The pollution has adversely impacted agriculture, saffron and horticulture production in the area,” Masoodi stated.
He cautioned the government about the threat posed by the air pollution to the adjoining forests and most importantly to the Dachigam National Park.
The NC MP asked the government to undertake an expert audit of the cement plants and stop production beyond authorized and permissible limits.
He demanded enforcing the universally accepted principle of “polluter to pay” to compensate the farmers of the affected areas for the loss in horticulture, agriculture, saffron production due to alarming dust and other pollution.
