UDHAMPUR, Jan 17: A massive fire broke out in the scrap store at the new Bus Stand, near Hanuman temple at Udhampur town today.
The fire broke out in the store this morning at about 11am. The people noticed smoke coming out from a corner of the store, just closer to Hanuman Temple and informed the owner Om Parkash.
The locals also informed the Police Station Udhampur and Control Room. The police team rushed to the spot and a team from Fire Station Udhampur under the supervision of Assistant Director Fire Service Sarvesh Langer with fire extinguishing team also arrived. The firemen controlled the flames within two hours and completely doused the fire within three hours.
Locals said that scrap stores should be shifted outside the city. There are also a lot of shops and houses nearby besides parked buses. It was good that the fire service controlled the fire, otherwise a major tragedy could have occurred.
