SRINAGAR, June 24: A massive fire broke out in the Bohri Kadal area of Srinagar today, destroying several commercial buildings and a mosque.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, battling the blaze for hours to bring it under control. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and there have been no reports of injuries so far. The affected area is known for its historic significance and bustling market, making this a significant loss for the local community.
An official said that fire tenders arrived promptly to tackle the blaze, but the Bazar Masjid had already suffered extensive damage. In addition to the mosque, several other buildings, including a commercial complex and residences, were destroyed in the congested Bohri Kadal locality. Local residents and fire brigade personnel worked together to extinguish the blaze. The exact cause of the fire will be determined once firefighting operations are complete.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, rushed to the site to personally oversee the rescue operations and firefighting efforts. He was accompanied by SSP Srinagar, Aashish Mishra, and other senior officers of the District Administration.
