Massive hunt for LeT chief

Srinagar, Dec 14: Army and Police today continued their hunt for the Commander in Chief of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Fahadullah, in North Kashmir villages following his escape from cordon on Wednesday morning from a Bandipora village.
Army and Police today conducted searches in Malmatanpora, Wapora and several other areas of Bandipora and Sopore to track Fahadullah whose three associates were killed by police and Army in an operation in Bandipora and Sopore areas of North Kashmir yesterday.
Police yesterday killed divisional commander of LeT for North Kashmir, Abu Zarar, Omar Ahsan Bhat alias Khitab of Kulgam district of South Kashmir of LeT outfit and Pakistan national Yehya Khan of Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit.
They along with the LeT chief Fahadullah were trapped by police and Army in village Cherehar of North Kashmir district of Kupwara on Wednesday morning. However, they fired on the troops and escaped in nearby orchards and woods. Three of them were killed yesterday while hunt for LeT chief is going on.
Security forces believed that the most wanted militant in Kashmir, Fahadullah, is hiding somewhere in the nearby villages or forests where the encounter took place yesterday. They have intensified the operations against him as the security forces didn’t want to allow him to escape as this time he is alone after his three associates were killed.
However, continuous rains and snow were hampering the operation of the security forces. The security forces believed that he might not had gone far off.
Fahadullah is the most wanted militant commander who is mostly operating from North Kashmir’s Sopore area for past 5 years. He infiltrated into Kashmir valley in 2007 and graduated to the LeT chief as the successive chiefs were killed over the years. He was injured in 2009 during an encounter in Sopore’s Badam Bagh area.
Fahadullah succeeded Abdullah Uni, the most wanted militant commander of LeT who had fled from security cordons dozens of times. Uni was killed by police and Army during an operation in Sopore town last year.
