ATLs, Astronomy Labs, Smart Classes established first time
*Nearly 100% increase in hospital beds, docs’ strength

JAMMU, Mar 16: Massive improvement has been witnessed in health, education and energy infrastructure sectors in Ladakh after reorganization of erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir and several facilities have been provided for the first time to the students’ community and in the field of healthcare.

Ladakh became a Union Territory of India on October 31, 2019, following the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, which also established Jammu and Kashmir as a separate Union Territory and since then massive transformation has been witnessed in several sectors in the cold desert region.
As per the official document, the copy of which is available with EXCELSIOR, before reorganization the number of hospital beds in Ladakh was 824 but after reorganization the number increased to 1554. Similarly, the number of oxygen supported beds was 461 and after October 2019 the same increased to 1078.
Likewise, there were only 11 ICU beds in whole of Ladakh but now the number has increased to 31. Before October 31, 2019, there were only 170 doctors and at present the number of doctors is 321. Earlier, there were only six Ayushman Arogya Mandir Health and Wellness Centres but after reorganization the number increased to 321.
As far as education sector is concerned, it was only after the formation of Union Territory that students in Ladakh received the facilities of Smart Classrooms, Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs), Astronomy Labs, Tablets and Central Heating Systems.
According to the document, enrolments in the schools increased from 46895 (before reorganization) to 54756 (after reorganization). Likewise, the strength of teachers has increased from 6197 to 6334. Earlier, there were only 15 hostels for the students but at present the number is 30. Before reorganization, there were only two Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs but at present the number stands at 148.
Before reorganization, not even single Atal Tinkering Lab was established but at present the number of such labs is 24. Earlier there was no Smart Classroom in Ladakh but now the number stands at 230. Similarly, after reorganization 17500 students from Class 6th and above were provided Tablets, which was earlier a dream for them.
Earlier, there were 36 additional classrooms (including labs) and after reorganization their number increased to 150. Before reorganization, there were 22 toilets for Children with Special Needs but at present the number stands at 184. Before October 31, 2019, there was not even a single Astronomy Lab and Central Heating Systems in the schools was a dream for the students. However, after reorganization 40 Astronomy Labs were established and heating facility created in 14 schools.
As far as energy infrastructure sector is concerned, there was no 220 KV transmission line in whole of Ladakh but after reorganization Srinagar-Leh Transmission Line was established, which was the long pending requirement of the cold desert region.
Before reorganization, there was 257.31 kilometers 66 KV line but after reorganization the length increased to 293.15 kilometers. Likewise, there were ten 66/11 KV sub-stations earlier and now the number is 16. Before reorganization there was no 33/11 KVB sub-station but after reorganization two such sub-stations were created.
Earlier, there were 60 11 KV feeders but after reorganization the number increased to 79. Similarly, before October 31, 2019 the length of 11 KV line was 2481 kilometers but after reorganization the same stands increased to 3029.35 kilometers. Earlier, there were 1182 distribution transformers of 114.36 MVA capacity but at present the number stands increased to 2781 with 283.56 MVA capacity. Moreover, length of LT lines has increased to 3087 kilometers from earlier figure of 2540 kilometers.
