JAMMU, May 3: The family members, relatives and neighbours of the woman who died yesterday at Choudhary Hospital, Akhnoor due to alleged negligence of the doctor, today blocked Akhnoor-Pallanwalla Road at main Khour market, demanding compensation and a Government job for the family.
The protest began this morning at about 10 O’ clock. Protestors in hundreds including the family members, kin and neighbours assembled at main Khour market with the dead body of the woman and staged protest. They blocked the Akhnoor-Pallanwalla Road for several hours and disrupted vehicular traffic.
Protesting people demanded stringent action against the doctor for medical negligence and against his son for assaulting the kin of the deceased woman. They also demanded compensation for the family of the deceased and a Government job to one of the members of the family.
The protest continued for about 4 hours during which the entire Khour market remained closed. The shopkeepers also joined the protest. A police team from police station Khour rushed to the spot but all their efforts to pacify the protestors proved futile.
Later, SP Rural Suram Singh and SDM Khour Anil Kumar also rushed to the spot. They pacified the protestors by assuring them to put up their demands with Deputy Commissioner Jammu ensuring a fair probe into the death of the woman. On their assurance, the protestors lifted the blockade and dispersed at about 2:30 PM after which the vehicular traffic was restored on Akhnoor-Pallanwalla Road.
Pertinent to mention here that the woman identified as Anju Devi (38) wife of Subhash Singh, resident of Khour, died yesterday at Choudhary Hospital in Akhnoor town due to alleged negligence of the Dr Gafoor Ahmed after which the family staged protest in the hospital premises and during the protest, Dr Gafoor’s son Farhan Ahmed, attacked the protesting family members. Later in the day, both Dr Gafoor and his son were arrested by the police.
