Massive searches in Akhnoor, Kanachak border areas after suspicious movement

JAMMU, July 12: After being informed by a civilian about movement of three suspects, security forces launched a search operation in Kanachak and Akhnoor sectors early today. Searches continued till tonight but there was no trace of any suspects.

Reports said a poultry farm employee in Gurha Pattan claimed that one of the three suspects approached him in the midnight when he was asleep and asked for water and name of the area. The suspects also asked about his name and owner.
Later, all three left the spot.

He sounded other locals and police which rushed to the spot and joined by Army and paramilitary forces launched search operations in the entire border belt.
Officials said there were no traces which showed any kind of movement of the terrorists in the area, Nevertheless, they said, taking no chance in view of prevailing situation, security forces have been conducting extensive search operations in entire Akhnoor and Kanachak sectors.
“The forces are on high alert and have asked people to share any details of suspected movements in their areas,” the officials said.
The security forces have scanned agricultural fields, villages and adjoining scattered habitation, they said.
The operation is underway.
Meanwhile, search operations continued in Badnota, Machedi, Lohai Malhar and surrounding areas of Billawar in Kathua district in search of terrorists responsible for the attack on two Army vehicles in which five soldiers were martyred and five others were injured on Monday.
A number of suspects have been picked up by the police for questioning to reach to the guides who helped terrorists carry out the attack.
Searches also continued at multiple places to eliminate the terrorists, they said.
