*CEO encourages citizens to exercise voting right

JAMMU, Apr 20: Border Octroi Post Suchetgarh on Saturday became the focal point of electoral enthusiasm as a Special Voters’ Enrollment and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme enthralled a massive audience, including locals, tourists and students.
The programme was held with Chief Electoral Officer Pandurang K Pole and General Election Observer Rahul Ranjan Mahiwal as special guests.
Returning Officer 5-Jammu Parliamentary Constituency Sachin Kumar Vaishya, SSP Jammu Dr Vinod Kumar and Commandant BSF Octroi Post Suchetgarh Ajay Sharma were also among the attendees.
A crescendo of musical and cultural performances, led by the electrifying voice of Sangram Hanjra, resonated at the venue, who passionately urged all present to exercise their franchise on April 26 in the Jammu Parliamentary Constituency.
The vibrant atmosphere was further enriched by captivating performances by school students. They evoked a sense of patriotism and instilled a vigour for participation in democracy.
In his address, Chief Electoral Officer Pandurang K Pole emphasised the pivotal role of citizens in upholding the sanctity of democracy through their votes, stating, “We the citizens of the world’s largest and thriving democracy should uphold its unique position by casting our vote.” He underscored the Election Commission of India’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring participation of all sections of society in the electoral process, including those facing geographical and demographic challenges.
Echoing his sentiments, the General Election Observer called upon all to cast their votes on April 26 “To substantiate our position of being the largest democracy in the world.”
Sachin Kumar Vaishya took the opportunity to rally the audience, urging them to turn out in large numbers on April 26, thereby fortifying the foundation of democracy.
SSP Dr Vinod Kumar reiterated the commitment to ensure a free and fair electoral process, assuring voters of strict action against any form of intimidation or malpractice. “No intimidation to any voter or candidate would be tolerated,” he affirmed, urging vigilance and prompt reporting of any irregularities.
The event, also attended by ADDC Sher Singh, ADC Ansuya Jamwal and SDM RS Pura Seema Parihar besides district officers, successfully instilled a sense of duty towards electoral participation and democratic values.
