JAMMU, June 23: A massive traffic jam was witnessed in Kud-Patnitop and Batote area of the old section of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway today.
Reports said that Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed today for maintenance work by the NHAI from 6 am on Friday to 6 am on Saturday. The traffic of Doda-Kishtwar-Bhaderwah belt had been diverted to Kud-Batote section of old highway.
A large number of oil and LPG tankers were stranded in Kud and Batote area for the last two days and this huge volume of traffic created massive traffic jam as Jammu bound vehicles from Doda and Kishtwar side were also allowed to move on narrow highway. It infact happened due to mismanagement on the part of Traffic Police authorities.
Moreover, due to severe hot in Jammu area, many families are moving towards Patnitop, Sanasar and Bhaderwah and it has also added to the more traffic volume on this section. Due to movement of traffic on both sides and long queue of petrol tankers along the highway, long traffic jam was created for about 3-4 hours on this section. The commuters had very tough time due to the traffic jam. The people cursed the Traffic Police authorities for the mess on highway.
