UDHAMPUR, Sept 30: An unprecedented traffic chaos was witnessed on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway since last night resulting into great difficulties to the passengers.
Thousands of vehicles remained stranded on the roads till 11.30 a.m while the entire Udhampur town was virtually choked resulting into a chaos like situation there since early morning.
The trouble erupted after the Traffic Police stopped upward movement of vehicles from Udhampur following a jam from Batote to Patnitop due to double laning by trucks and movement of nomads along with their cattle.
As the traffic from Jammu was not stopped, a big number of vehicles reached near Udhampur resulting into a massive jam in the Town, Dhar Road, Tikri and the adjoining highway.
Due to this traffic jam, a large number of people, including students and employees, could not reach their destinations and remained struck on the road.
According to Dr Hasib Mughal, SSP Traffic National Highway, the traffic jam was cleared by 11.30 a.m and there was normal movement of vehicles since afternoon.
Holding the truckers responsible for the jam, the SSP said that movement of nomads along with their cattle complicated the problem, which ultimately resulted into a chaos like situation.
To avoid such situation, he also assured some precautionary measures such as not allowing the trucks to remain stranded on the National Highway besides not releasing heavy vehicles opposite traffic.
