Massive tumor removed free of cost at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital

KATRA, May 21: A massive abdominal tumor weighing over 7 kg was removed by the Surgical Oncology Team at Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital.
A 60-year-old female presented with a mass in abdomen which had been growing over the past 2 months to such a massive size that it became impossible for her to walk. She was told by local physician that she would have to undergo surgery and that such surgery needed to done at a high end medical facility and it would cost lakhs of rupees.
The family discussed medical and financial challenges with one of their relatives who suggested taking an opinion at Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Hospital where the treatment could get covered under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. She then consulted Dr Abhinav Choudhary (Consultant – Surgical Oncology) who after reviewing the reports informed the patient that the surgery is possible at their hospital and that too under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
She underwent surgery as planned and the massive tumor was removed without any complications and post which the doctors were able to discharge her without any complications.
Dr Abhinav said that the association between Ayushman Bharat and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has enabled such cancer patients who otherwise could not afford private healthcare to get treatments of high end centers in the region.
He said shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has dedicated an area of the Hospital for medical care of Ayushman Bharata Yojna beneficiaries and will strive to provide medical care to all sections of the society.
