“Mastering Focus in a Distracted World”

Hitesh Abrol
In today’s distracted world, what we need the most is focus. We humans are losing the attention span. The only thing that differentiate humans from animals is brain, but in current time, we humans are losing the control over it.
While researching for my book “DIGITAL DISTRACTION “, I came to know that these algorithm of social media apps is created with the intention to keep humans always hooked to it. No app is created or updated to make this world a better place to live, instead every developer or owner of these apps is more concerned to make millions out of these.
Many times Meta has been sued or fined to make humans so much glued to screens that a lot of kids have committed suicides. But these fines are making no change to these entrepreneurs. They are still making much more than we even think of.
“If you are not paying for the product”
We need to make this statement true in our lives. We all need to understand the basic of our existence. I am giving more emphasis on drawbacks of DIGITAL DISTRACTION because before knowing the tactics to regain our focus, we must understand why it is much more important to regain our focus in Distracted world?
Few years back, in tribes or villages, mothers used to give sedatives to their kids, so that they can complete their household work smoothly. When these kids grew, they used to have more urge to have alcohol or drugs because of the usage of sedatives in their tender age. Same is the case with these gadgets that we give to our kids to keep them busy. Instead it is giving them a hook to stay connected with digital media.
Do you know that DOPAMINE is released when a COCAINE USER has urge to have COCAINE , and the same Dopamine is released when a person who is digitally addicted urges to use social media. Just imagine what will happen to the same adult in older age when so much of dopamines have been released already when he /she is going to watch COCAINE. Is he/she not going to feel hooked, just by watching someone using drug?
Moreover, the user is never made aware in past that addiction to anything is bad. So we must make everyone aware in their childhood that addiction to distraction is always bad.
As Robin Sharma, Bestselling Author of book “5 A.M. CLUB” used to say that “Addiction to Distraction is the death of Creative mind.” So we need to understand that what addiction means to us.
In addition, if we think from the perspective of Science, it is well explained that human mind develops to 90 % of its capacity from 0-5 years of age. So from this perspective, the young age is very much important. Thus, parents must consider this.
