* Transporters, Rana defer strike, dharna

JAMMU, Apr 11:  The transporters have deferred proposed strike for a week as the matter of rationalizing toll tariff being charged from the local transporters of the State on Jammu-Udhampur stretch of National Highway has been taken up with the authorities of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
Announcing the decision taken unanimously at a meeting held here today with the representatives of various Transport Unions of Jammu division, the Minister for R&B, Gardens Parks and Floriculture, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said that the local officers of NHAI have been asked to apprise the higher authorities of the organization for rationalizing the tariff charges, adding that the officers are likely to proceed to New Delhi within a couple of days for the purpose.
Appreciating the gesture of the Union leaders, especially TS Wazir, for understanding the view points of the Government and NHAI, the Minister said that this will make Government able to dispatch essentials for Kashmir and other areas, which has affected due to blockage of the national highway.
The Minister said that Commissioner Secretary, R&B and Secretary Transport will coordinate and monitor the development of the issue. He said Government is also serious on this issue and wants to settle it amicably.
Earlier, a threadbare discussion was held on the issue at a meeting with the leaders of various Transport Unions of Jammu division and the officers of line department, including police.
MLA, Nagrota, Devinder Singh Rana, Commissioner Secretary, R&B, IG Traffic, Secretary Transport, Transport Commissioner, DCs of Reasi and Jammu, the officers from NHAI and R&B Department were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Devender Singh Rana, MLA Nagrota has deferred the proposed sit-in dharna at Ban Toll Plaza, on Sunday (April 12) in view of the assurance given by the Government.
Mr. Rana urged the State Government to take all possible steps to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Shrine and the local residents of Nagrota constituency who have to commute within the constituency for their day to day living.
After the meeting, Mr Rana held a meeting with the Sarpanches and senior leaders of Nagrota and conveyed to them the deliberations of the meeting and the decision to defer the sit-in dharna.
