Mattoo calls on Dalai Lama

LEH, July 28: Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, today had a special interaction with His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama at Jivetsal, Choglamsar Leh.
Prof. Mattoo, who is heading a Working Group for improving education standard of J&K under ‘Knowledge Initiative’ briefed Dalai Lama about the steps taken by Government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to improve the educational scenario of the State.
He sought suggestion and guidance from His Holiness to help them realize the dream of bringing educational reforms in the State.
Dalai Lama appreciated Prof. Matoo’s initiative and stated that he was pleased to see the reforms initiated to improve the education scenario in the State.
Prof. Mattoo informed Dalai Lama that Working Group has drafted a curriculum based on secular ethics education that would be purely an academic subject.
Dalai Lama stressed on the need for revival of ancient knowledge along with modern education in order to revive inner peace. He stated that India can play a significant role in bringing world peace.
During the conversation Dalai Lama assured to extend his support and help through coordinated and collaborative efforts in achieving the vision of reforming education system in J&K State.
Later, Amitabh Matto convened a meeting to review the pace of ongoing developmental  projects.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy G, SSP Leh Udayabaskar Billa and other district officers.
The Advisor reviewed the developmental activities like power, health, education and tourism infrastructure in the district.
He expressed satisfaction over infrastructure facilities in Government schools and high literacy rate in the district. He said that the State Government is committed to provide best quality education to children in the State.
DC, Leh apprised Prof. Mattoo about the developmental activities being carried out in the district. The Advisor said that development projects in the district must be executed at a faster pace so that the region can reap benefits from such projects at economical and social front.
Giving all a patient hearing, he assured them to look into the problems and ensured them to take it up with Chief Minister and other concerned Ministry for early redressal.
