Mattoo quits as Advisor to CM

JAMMU, Nov 23: Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, resigned today from his post citing personal reasons.
“There is no political or administrative reason for my decision to step down. I want to devote time to my family. I have resigned due to personal reasons as I seriously feel I need more time to devote to academics”, Mattoo told the Excelsior after submitting his resignation to the Chief Minister.
He said: “I also genuinely believe that I can serve the people of my country and State better by continuing my academic journey. Kindly don’t try to attribute any political motive to my decision”.
Mattoo added that he has not resigned from the PDP membership and will still be involved in decision making process in Jammu and Kashmir and the State affairs.
There was no official word on whether the Chief Minister has accepted Mattoo’s resignation.
Mattoo had been appointed Advisor by Mehbooba Mufti with the status of Cabinet Minister in April this year. He had also served Mehbooba’s father, late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed till his death in January this year. He drew Re 1 as token salary as Advisor.
A former Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, Mattoo is also a member of many nations and international bodies of academics.
