JAMMU, Oct 27: The theatre organisations of Mauritius are bringing out a book on the life and contribution of Padamshree Balwant Thakur who is currently the Director of world’s biggest cultural centre based in Mauritius.
The book is ready and likely to be launched by the President of the Republic of Mauritius in the 1st week of November, 2022 at an exclusive function.
Aimed at disseminating information about Balwant Thakur in Mauritius, this book features a precise journey of Balwant Thakur followed by analytical features on him being a playwright, theatre director and a cultural administrator. Interestingly in this book his multifaceted personality is being projected independently highlighting his unique contribution to the world as playwright, theatre director and cultural administrator.
Ever since Balwant Thakur joined Mauritius as the cultural head of India, he revolutionized the entire cultural scene by introducing new innovative ways of showcasing the creative presentations. The kind of theatre which he put into practice was something new to Mauritius and he introduced a new approach to children theatre both in terms of the training process and presentation styles.
After conducting a series of workshops and interactions with the theatre practitioners of Mauritius, he mounted a play which was staged here in four languages viz French, Cerole, English and Hindi. His play received tremendous appreciation and the Mauritian press featured detailed articles recognizing it as the beginning of a new theatre movement in Mauritius. Getting recognition in a foreign land is not an ordinary achievement but for him it has been now a routine affair as his work has already been critically acclaimed in South Africa, UK, Russia, Germany, Italy, China, Thailand, Singapore, UAE, Bangladesh, and many Central Asian countries.
