Max Super Speciality Hospital holds free diabetes camp

JAMMU, Nov 14: Leading healthcare provider of region, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali organized a free diabetes camp to mark World Diabetes Day.
During the occasion, Dr Surya Kant Mathur, director of Endocrinology also gave a talk on diabetes and thyroid. He said that the need of the hour is to spread the message about the importance of increasing access to diabetes care to improve diabetes management, prevent complications and improve the quality of life of people living with diabetes in the country.
Dr Mathur said World Diabetes Day is an opportunity for us to raise awareness of diabetes as a public health issue and to share what needs to be done, collectively and individually. Talking about the importance of awareness about diabetes from the very beginning, he said that lifestyle is a big contributor to the development of diabetes. Not having a healthy diet, high consumption of calories, sugar, fats, less fiber and the absence of exercise are crucial factors that lead to the emergence of diabetes, he added.
“It is not a disease that affects only adults as is widely believed. Even a young child could be afflicted by diabetes. Besides teaching and promoting kids to adopt healthy lifestyles from their young age, it also becomes very vital to create awareness about diabetes among children and parents,” he opined while stating that diabetes also leads to serious complications like, Heart Disease, Kidney Disease, Blindness, Limb Amputation, etc which can be prevented.
