NEW DELHI: Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati today suggested that the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, 2015 be passed in the Rajya Sabha without any discussion.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Ms Mayawati said, ”It is a very important Bill but since there seems to be very little possibility of any discussion on it in the current scenario, I suggest that the Bill should be passed without any discussion.”

However, disagreeing with her, Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said as it was an important Bill, it was not proper to pass it without any discussion. ”I assure that the Bill will be discussed and passed in this session itself,” Mr Azad stated.

The Congress has been disrupting Parliament since the last week on various issues, forcing repeated adjournments and not allowing transaction of any legislative business.

The Bill seeks to amend the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. It has already been passed by the Lok Sabha. (UNI)
