Mayor, Dy Mayor visit Anuradhapuram, warn against encroachments

JAMMU, Oct 28: Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Rajinder Sharma along with Deputy Mayor, Baldev Singh Billawaria today visited Anuradhapuram Barnai to ascertain the problems being faced by the people who complained that hundreds year old nullah which was the outlet of Barnai Talab and catchment areas has been encroached by some people with the result many houses got damaged during recent Monsoon rains and the standing crops were damaged.
The Mayor visited the area and held interaction with local inhabitants who narrated their woes to him saying that about six residential houses and standing crops of maize were damaged due to this year’s Monsoon rains as the nullah has totally been encroached.
The Mayor was informed that a residential house was constructed in the area on the nullah which is the cause of entire problem and over 200 residential houses go through a nightmarish experience when the nullah is in spate during Monsoon.
The Mayor after visiting the area assured the residents that no encroachment of the nullahs or Government land in the Municipal limits of Jammu will be tolerated as there are clear-cut instructions from the Government in this regard. He warned strict action against the encroachers after verifying all the documents from the Revenue Department.
Both Mayor and Deputy Mayor assured the people that the road and other lanes and drains will be constructed in the area and they will issue necessary instructions to the concerned officials in this regard.
They also assured that the road leading to Durga Nag Community Hall will also be blacktopped and the drainage nullah passing through the area will be covered as the issue was brought in their notice by Kuldeep Rain member of Durga Nag Trust.
Earlier both Mayor and Deputy Mayor participated in the annual Maha Yagya which was organized by Anuradha Puram Welfare Committee led by its president Shiban Krishan and general secretary Vinod Dhar. The Committee also honored Mayor Deputy Mayor and Corporator Kapil Chib on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Mayor said that his office is open for public and he is committed to redress all the genuine grievances of the people. He said the development works will be given pace in Jammu as directives have been issued to all to work in double shifts to complete the backlog.
