JMC to illuminate 75 Wards before Diwali

JAMMU, Oct 20: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is all prepared to illuminate all of its 75 Wards much before the festivals of Diwali and the Mayor Rajinder Sharma today pulled his sleeves in this regard while chairing an important meeting of officers concerned.
Addressing in the meeting, the Mayor strictly instructed the officers of JMC, EESL and JKPDCL authorities to ensure proper lighting of entire Jammu before Diwali.
“Get all the damaged street lights, high mast lights and other lightening work completed within shortest possible time and install lights wherever the same have not been fixed so far so that people of Jammu may enjoy the festival of lights to their full contentment,” he asked his officers.
After chairing the meeting the Mayor also released roosters for the works in this regard.
The Mayor revealed that 40 teams of EESL will work with 20 teams of JMC in close coordination to illuminate the city within shortest possible time under his directions to clear the backlog and other shortcomings in this regard.
He said that it was a tripartite agreement between EESL, JMC and JKPDCL under which the phase wire was to be laid by JKPDCL along with erection of electric poles while EESL was supposed to fix lights over these poles.
“So far we have installed 93,000 street lights in the city from the year 2018 when the Urban Local Body was elected after 13 long years. Only in last one year 30,000 street lights were installed in the left out areas of the city,” Rajinder Sharma maintained.
Joint Commissioner Works, JMC, Rajesh Sumbria,SE, JPDCL, Karam Chand, Executive Engineer, Division 2 JPDCL, Gandhinagar; Ashok Chibber, Executive Engineer, Electrical, JMC, Arun Gupta, EESL Head, J&K, Rahul Singh and others were also present in the meeting.
After meeting the Mayor toured the city and physically checked non-functional street lights and pinpointed certain spots where special illumination was needed.
