Jammu, Feb 17: Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Chander Mohan Gupta today conducted tour of Cremation Ground at Jogi Gate here and reviewed the construction works of two major sheds being constructed by the JMC with the cost of Rs 80 lakhs.
Accompanied by Murari Lal, Ex Councillor, members of development committee of Shamshan Ghat, Arun Gupta, Executive Engineer, Mohd Yaseen, Junior Engineer and Suresh Gupta, Health Officer went round the complex and reviewed the construction work of two major sheds at Jogi Gate.
There was urgent need of these sheds as people who come for cremation have to face lot of hardships especially in rainy and summer seasons due to non existence of the sheds and broken rooms meant for keeping asthian.
Mayor was apprised by the JMC Engineering wing that these sheds will be completed within the shortest period of time. Mayor on the demands of committee members, also directed the Municipal Engineers to start the renovation and construction of the entrance gates near parking by floating fresh tenders for these particular development works.
Mayor told that the JMC has started the developments of Cremation Grounds/Grave Yards/Shishu Samadhian by allotting Rs 25 lakh for each ward of Jammu city on priority basis so that general public who come for mourning/cremation may not suffer due to lack of basic amenities.
He also directed Health officer to install twin dustbins at various spots of Shamshan Ghat and maintain proper cleanliness in and around the Jogi Gate Cremation Ground.
