This 156-page book titled Succhi Samhaal is a collection of 27 essays in Dogri mostly concerning the keen observations, wide experiences and recollection of social and cultural moments by eminent Dogri writer and broadcaster, Narinder Bhasin.
Padma Shree Prof. Nilamber Dev Sharma has written Preface of the book and has praised the contents and presentation of socio-cultural life of people sum 40-50 years back in Jammu region
Narinder Bhasin has in the recent past already published his travelogue in Dogri “Char Dishan-Char Dhaam” which won high acclaim in the literary circles. The book was a narration of events depicting the life style of different parts of India and also drawn a vivid account of various pilgrim places. The couple Narinder Bhasin and Chanchal Bhasin had a pilgrimage across the country and narrated the experiences and observation.
The book under review was released at an impressive and well attended function organized by the Dogri Sanstha on January 20, 2015. Prof. Lalit Magotra, convener, Dogri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, Delhi and a well known Dogri writer, released the book amidst galaxy of writers, artists, academicians and prominent citizens. Prof. Magotra, in his presidential address lauded the efforts of the author to highlight the real essence of “Dogriyat” which is based on the firm pillars of honesty, hospitality, valour and harmony among the people in this part of the country.
Prof. Veena Gupta read a paper on the literary creation of the author as well as threw light on his life as a writer and added that essays are true vehicle of communicating ideas, experiences and description of Duggar’s cultural heritage.
The President, Dogri Sanstha, Yogender Chhatrapal threw light on the literary achievements of the author and the salient features of “|Succhi Samhaal”. Significantly, Narinder Bhasin also spoke about the book, also his creative journey and got appreciation from the audience.
There are twenty seven essays written in lucid style and simple Dogri language. Some notable among them are Hoon Saade Kun Dene which is story of a Mehtaa couple who use to deliver all messages of, deaths, marriages or other auspicious functions in family but sadly it has given way to newspaper advertisements, Sawaa Lalkh Jyotaah is narration of a pious and devout lady spiritual uplifted and a decent person who happened to be Mr Bhasin’s mother-in-law, others customs which have eloped from the our society and the merit of the book is that it gives adequate glimpses of those old days and cultural traits.
Narinder Bhasin has two more monumental books in hand and these are: Neel Madhav as a khand kavya which is in the press, and also ” Assay Da Chaan” which is heart-moving narration of opening up of trans-LoC border in Jammu and Kashmir.
The author has the distinction of working tirelessly and giving the society his creative works. The book ” Suchichi Samhal” is a good publication reflecting the cultural traits and spiritual heritage of Duggar in chaste language which will be fondly due place on the personal book selves as also the public libraries and in educational institutions. This book probes that new is slowly and gradually taking over new developments—Mr Bhasin’s narration is an accurate account as a witness to the times some 40-50 years back.
