JAMMU, Oct 17: Medanta Medicity Gurgaon stressed on Statins medicine, which is helping to reduce LDL cholesterol from body.
Addressing a press conference, Chairman of Medanta Heart Institute Dr Balbir Singh claimed that North Indian States including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh have a high percentage of people suffering from heart diseases and south Indian states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Singh said that in 2004, 14 percent of total deaths in India were due to heart disease and the percentage keeps rising in India as well as north States. The greatest problems is Cardiovascular (Heart) disease in today’s world and large numbers of patients, who are suffering from the same disease and the average age of a heart patients in the north states is 45 years, he added.
“When we check heart diseases patients, a lot of people ask to us that they are vegetarian then why are suffering from the diseases. Vegetarianism is no safeguard, in fact, fried food, today’s life style and increasing LDL cholesterol leads to heart diseases. “Lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle in young age group of 25 to 39 years is a well-known fact as well as lack of open space for playing, cycling or recreation in most urban centres is only adding to the heart problems, he stated.
He further said that a newly born child’s LDL cholesterol is 35 and same cholesterol of adult is 100, so keeping in view we had conducted some tests on heart diseases patients by giving Statins medicine. Statins medicine can lower cholesterol and work by blocking a substance in body needs to make cholesterol and it may also help body reabsorb cholesterol that has built up in plaques on artery walls, preventing further blockage in human blood vessels and heart attacks and the results of the tests were come more than expectations, he claimed.
