Srinagar, July 14: Taking immediate cognisance of media reports on alleged disposal of biomedical waste along the bank of river Lidder in Srigufwara, the Deputy Commissioner, Dr Piyush Singla today dispatched a team of officers headed by Tehsildar Srigufwara and Drug Inspector and Block Medical Officer as its members to the site for on-spot investigation in the offence.
The team inspected the place and conducted a thorough enquiry into the matter.
After a quick investigation, the team observed that Wani Medical Store situated at Loiseer Srigufwara was involved in dumping the bio-medical waste along the riverbank in open violation of rules.
The team immediately sealed the shop and served a show-cause notice to the owner for committing the offence in flagrant violation of bio-medical waste disposal rules.
Meanwhile, the district administration appealed to the owners of drug stores, private clinics and the general public to desist from such unlawful and immoral practices, maintaining that such practices are detrimental to public health and disastrous for a diverse ecosystem.
Speaking on the matter, the DC said that conservation of the environment is the prime duty of every citizen adding all well-meaning individuals must keep a guard on unscrupulous elements who indulge in its degradation.
