Medicos threaten agitation over prez arrest

SRINAGAR, June 25: Medical fraternity today condemned the arrest of Doctor’s Association Kashmir President Dr. Nisar-ul-Hassan by police and threatened to launch an intensive agitation if he is not released immediately.
Reportedly Dr. Nisar has been arrested by police on Monday afternoon while he was on duty at Government Medical College for asking the doctors to wear black badges on June 25 to protest the Government’s inaction on the spurious drug scam that hit the headlines earlier this year.
Principal GMC, Dr Rafiq Pampori criticized police for arresting Dr Nisar and said that he should have been consulted by police.
Superintendent Police (south city) Sulaiman Choudhary when contacted didn’t comment on the arrest of DAK president.
Various doctors’ unions including DAK, Resident Doctors Association of SKIMS, Indian Dental Association, Medical Faculty Association, Medical Employees Federation and others have condemned the “unwarranted and brutal” action of police.
Meanwhile, President Employees Joint Action committee Abdul Qayoom Wani has strongly condemned the arrest of famous DAK president Dr.Nissar-ul-Hassan.
In a handout, EJAC said, the arrest only marks the callous attitude of the government towards the spurious drug issue, adding, EJAC will provide every kind of support to DAK in their struggle.
