JAMMU, Dec 2: Emphasizing the need to understand the dynamics of cardiovascular diseases vis a vis its mitigation through spiritual healing, Dr. Sushil Sharma, HoD Cardiology, GMC today conducted a day long camp at Pouni , Reasi.
The camp was inaugurated by Saint Shri Balak Yogeshwar Ji Maharaj along with Dr Sushil and Dr R P Singh (B.M.O) Pouni in presence of  various disciples who gathered at culmination ceremony of Ati Vishnu Maha Jagya.
During the course of health checkup camp, he said that despite numerous advances in the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease remained a leading cause of morbidity and mortality across the world.
“Novel and inexpensive interventions that can contribute to the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease are of wider interest. Numerous studies have reported on the benefits of meditation and prayers,” Dr Sharma said.
Taking cue from the recent studies in this direction, he informed that several neurophysiological and neuroanatomical studies demonstrate that meditation can have long standing effects on the brain, which provide some biological plausibility for beneficial consequences on the physiological basal state and on cardiovascular risk, he said.
Given the low costs and low risks of this intervention, meditation may be considered as an addition to mitigate the cardiovascular risk factors by those interested in this lifestyle modification, Dr Sharma added.
Others, who were part of this day long camp, included Dr Rashpal Singh ( B.M.O) Pouni, Dr Sameer Mahajan, Dr Neeraj Koul and Dr Umesh Sharma. Paramedics and volunteers included Vivak M Arya, Jagjit Singh, Davinder Singh (Pintoo), Raghav Rajput, Akshay Kumar, Rohit Chalotra, Rajinder Singh, Raj Kumar.
