JAMMU, Oct 22: The 2nd meeting of the Regional Advisory Committee of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, was held here today at Amar Mahal Museum under the chairmanship of Dr Karan Singh, president ICCR.
Nine members of the Regional Advisory Committee in addition to the officials of ICCR including Abhilasha Joshi, IFS Director ICCR, New Delhi and Regional Director Balwant Thakur attended the meeting.
The non official members who attended the meeting included Dr Ved Kumari Ghai, Dr Lalit Magotra, Dr Jatinder Udhampuri, Dr Champa Sharma, Prof Anita Billawaria, Praduman Singh, Khalid Hussain, Savita Bakshi and Anuradha Rishi.
At the very outset Dr Karan Singh dwelt in detail about ICCR and informed about its activities in the last few years. Members demanded that ICCR Jammu must be housed at a prominent place with proper infrastructure so as to enable this regional centre to expand its activities.
In this connection, president ICCR informed that the J&K Government has already been requested to provide some space to ICCR, preferably at Kala Kendra Jammu.
The Regional Director ICCR Jammu presented a report on the activities of ICCR in Jammu and informed members that since the opening of the ICCR in Jammu three major international events from the countries like Zambia, Republic of LAOS, and Poland have been organized in a big way in addition to five mega local events and 30 (Thirty) programmes have been organized under the Horizon Series featuring prominent artists poets and writers of the State.
ICCR Jammu has introduced the high-tech methods of documentation and dissemination using the latest developed equipments and with in a year Jammu office has made a global outreach. All members appreciated and commended the working of Jammu office of ICCR and termed it as one of the most active and professionally handled organization of the country.
