Meeting on Child Rights to put spotlight on education

NEW DELHI, June 14: A high-level meeting on South-South Cooperation for Child Rights to be held here in October will put the spotlight on early childhood education, adolescence and urbanisation and child rights.

A total of 36 ministers from as many countries from the Asia-Pacific region have been invited by Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath to attend the programme which focuses on accelerating development of child rights, said a Ministry official today.

During the meet, various participating countries would share their experiences and successes and their successful strategies which others can follow instead of developing a policy from scratch.

A team from the WCD ministry, led by Joint Secretary Vivek Joshi, recently visited China to prepare groundwork in this regard.

During the meeting, the country representatives decided the agenda to be discussed during the meet which include early childhood education, adolescence and urbanisation and child rights.

All the aspects of these three issues would be covered during the meet, the official said.

Ten other countries had also attended the preparatory meeting, he added.

South-South cooperation involves the transfer of knowledge, skills and resources between developing countries.  (UNI)
