KATHUA, Nov 20: A mega youth festival under “Young Voter Awareness and Mobilization Programme” of SVEEP campaign Matdaan Mahotsav was organised by District Administration at Government Degree College Kathua in which more than 5000 college students and young voters aged 18-19 years participated and pledged to caste their vote and motivate at least 100 other voters personally for forthcoming Legislative Assembly elections.  “Sankalp-Pledge to Vote” – was theme of Festival.
As many as 7 rallies were flagged off at 10 am from various corners of Kathua town by senior officers of district administration which culminated at Government Degree College Kathua where a day long colorful programme was organised to highlight the value of moral and ethical voting; and strengthen the youth partnership for greater electoral participation. Students from Government Degree College, Government Women Degree College, Industrial Training Institute, Polytechnic College  and B.Ed colleges participated in the festival and various competitions organised during the event.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary was chief guest in the function which was organised by Addl DC Prasanna Ramaswami, Asstt Returning Officer Anshul Garg and Principal GDC B L Gupta. SSP Kathua Pawan Parihar, ADDC Narinder Singh Bali, ACR Suraj Parkash, ACD Tilak Raj, Addl SP Nasir Ahmed, Commandant CRPF, CEO, CMO, CEO-LSDA and all district officers attended the function apart from faculty of all the colleges.
Debate competition, painting competition, elocution contest, placard designing competition, cultural programmes, skits and other innovate competitive events were organised during the day long festival. More than 70 students, mostly first time voters, presented their best skills during the competitions and received award from chief guest. Trophies and Certificates of Merit were presented to 15 students of various colleges. The students also presented a number of plays on promotion of moral, ethical and informed voting. A pledge was administered among the audience by CEO Tourism Dr Bharat Bhushan.
Apart from debate, elocution and contests the students of colleges enthralled the audience with their exceptional performances in Punjabi and Dogri folk programmes.
