NEW DELHI, May 24: Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr Mukul Sangma called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS (Independent Charge) Youth Affairs & Sports, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Meghalaya on the 27th of this month.
Pertinent to mention that North Eastern Council (NEC) , of which Dr Jitendra Singh is the Chairman in his capacity as DoNER Minister, is holding its 65th Plenary meeting at Shillong which will be attended by all the Governors and all the Chief Ministers of eight States of Northeast. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consented to address a special session of NEC on the 27th .
Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at Shillong on 27th morning and after addressing the North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting, he will also address a public rally in the afternoon. An exhibition highlighting two years of landmark initiatives in Northeast by the Modi Government is also expected to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
Dr Jitendra Singh conveyed to Mukul Sangma that, this is going to be a historic event, also because it is Narendra Modi’s first visit to Meghalaya after becoming Prime Minister. He said, Shillong is historically the original capital of the erstwhile Assam and also enjoys a heritage value and therefore, it is automatically an important destination in Northeast.
Dr Jitendra Singh also assured Mukul Sangma that various Meghalaya related issues will be addressed to expeditiously so that every State of Northeast including Meghalaya gets equally empowered as other States of the country.
