‘Chief Secy & DGP were from Jammu when I was CM’

JAMMU, Aug 7: Kick-starting the party campaign for the forthcoming Local Body and Panchayat polls, PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today accused BJP of doing nothing for Jammu, except misleading the people.

“What did the BJP give to Jammu region? They are talking about two crore tourists visiting Kashmir, replacing stones in the hands of Valley youth with laptops and successful conduct of G20 in Srinagar. But nothing was done for Jammu as they believe people here are in their pocket,” she said while addressing a meeting of PDP functionaries and senior workers at the party headquarters, here today.
Mehbooba Mufti rejected the BJP claims of normalcy and development in J&K Union Territory post abrogation of Article 370 and alleged that stone-pelting has spread across the country under the rule of saffron party, which is dividing people on communal lines.
“I don’t know who are the tourists visiting Kashmir Valley. They (BJP) could be giving subsidies to tour operators for sending their voters from other parts of the country to visit the Valley and see how they have concurred Kashmir. Anyhow, people are earning their livelihood and thus we don’t have any objection,” she said.
In respect of development claims, Mehbooba reminded that most of the projects like AIIMS, medical colleges and road tunnels were sanctioned during former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led Congress Government.
“When I was Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police were from Jammu region but after the fall of the Government, we have Lt Governor, his Advisors, Chief Secretary and other officers from outside Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
Mehbooba alleged that BJP has nothing to offer except misleading the people by the slogan of ‘Parivarvad’ and attacking three families – Nehru-Gandhi, Abdullahs and Muftis.
“They will never talk about public issues like unemployment and inflation. Their only agenda is to divide people on communal lines and garner votes. The Gandhi family has a history of sacrifices and believed in democracy and communal harmony. Rahul Gandhi says he is ready to go to the jail to keep the soul of India alive,” she said and added that the saffron party was the richest of all political parties and needs to be probed for the source of its money.
Further, Mehbooba added that she did not own a house in Srinagar despite her father being a former Union Minister and Chief Minister but the BJP owns property worth crores in every district. “They are afraid of the PDP because we do not have any stain on our clothes. The Enforcement Directorate questioned my mother and my brother but nothing was found,” she said and accused ruling BJP of using Central agencies against its political opponents.
Asking the party workers to prepare for the forthcoming polls of Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats in Jammu Kashmir, Mehbooba said that results were not consideration. “I want my workers to prepare and fight the elections without considering the results in case of a win, you will be able to serve the people of your area in a better way,” she said.
