SRINAGAR, Sept 27: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, has confirmed her attendance at an event hosted by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Women’s Wing to commemorate Dr Kalaignar Karunanidhi.
Mehbooba was invited by DMK MP Kanimozhi to attend a gathering, scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2023, at YMCA Nandanam in Chennai, t o honour the impactful legacy of Dr Kalaignar Karunanidhi in the realm of women’s empowerment.
In a message to Kanimozhi, Mehbooba conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to the DMK MP for extending the invitation.
She expressed her eagerness to participate in the event that commemorates Dr Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s legacy and underscores the critical importance of ongoing efforts in the spheres of women’s empowerment and social justice.

Dr Kalaignar Karunanidhi, an eminent figure in Indian politics, left an enduring mark in championing women’s rights. During his tenure as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he spearheaded pioneering initiatives such as enacting laws to grant equal property rights to daughters, alongside sons.
Furthermore, he played a pivotal role in introducing women’s reservations in Government positions and local governing bodies, offering countless women newfound financial autonomy and societal influence.
