SRINAGAR, Dec 12: Complimenting the people of Shopian for putting up a brave fight against the atrocities and injustices committed by the Omar Abdullah Government in the area during last six years, the PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti today said though justice remains to be done in every atrocity but the commitment and valor displayed by people of the area has added a glorious chapter in the history of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Your brave fight to get justice for the two unfortunate ladies- Asiya and Neelofar- who were brutally raped and murdered in 2009 under Omar Abdullah’s rule, is commendable though justice still eludes in the case but it has created a new awareness about the human rights situation in the State and value of human life and dignity,” she told the people while addressing various roadside meetings in Shopian constituency.
Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, candidate for Shopian constituency; Abdul Razaq Zawoora, MLA Shopian and youth district president, Raja Waheed, were also present on the occasion.
Mehbooba said Shopian was the first victim of Omar Abdullah’s atrocious regime and the cruelty and barbarism which the ruling Government unleashed in the area, will always pain everybody with human feelings.
The PDP president said like other area of the State, Shopian too has faced deliberate neglect during last six years under the present regime. She said the whole district is facing a development and infrastructural deficit and the people have to badly suffer on different fronts.
Mehbooba said Shopian has a great potential to develop as an economic hub that could generate employment for others, not to speak of just the local youth. She said the PDP, if it was voted into office with full majority, would revive the projects started by its earlier Government.
She said the PDP will harness the tourism potential of the area by establishing Mughal Road Area Tourism Development Authority that will be give boost to the local economy.
