Srinagar, Feb 6: Four senior political leaders including two former Chief Ministers, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, were booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) today and three more leaders are likely to be booked under the Act.
Former Chief Ministers and president of People’s Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference vice president, Omar Abdullah, were booked under PSA today. These leaders were under preventive detention for last six months.
They were detained and kept under preventive detention at Bunglow number 6 at Transport Yard in Srinagar and at Hariniwas at Gupkar road Srinagar respectively.
They were booked under the PSA as soon as their six month detention under preventive custody ended today. Under the law no person can be kept under preventive detention for more than six months and it necessitated their booking under PSA.
Another former Chief Minister and NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah is detained under PSA and is lodged at his residence at Gupkar road in Srinagar, which has been designated as a Sub-Jail.
NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and senior PDP leader Sartaj Madni who were shifted from MLA hostel Sub-Jail to M-5 at Gupkar in Srinagar today were booked under PSA while NC leader Bashir Ahmed Veeri was also released from MLA hostel and kept at his official residence J-48 Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar under house arrest.
Sagar’s PSA order has been issued by District Magistrate Srinagar. His PSA dossier read that SSP Srinagar vide order number 1247-50, dated 5-2-2020, produced recorded material and the DC was satisfied with it and issued the order.
“I am satisfied that he was prejudiced to maintenance of peace,” read the PSA of Sagar. As per the grounds of detention order (DMS/PSA/ 145, 2019 dated 5-2-2020) Sagar had raised the voice against the vision of India besides Article 370 and Article 35 A.
“He was very vocal against abrogation of Articles 35A and 370. He was involved in instigating youth especially party workers. His capacity to disturb the public order can be gauged from the fact that he succeeded in mobilizing voters in the peak of militancy and poll boycotts,” the dossier said.
The PSA order for Madni has been issued by the District Magistrate Kulgam. As per the dossier, he played a pivotal role in agitation after alleged rape and murder of Asiya and Nelofar case. “He played vital role in mobilizing anti-social elements. He was also involved in provoking people to come to the streets and actively support separatists and propagate secession of J&K from Union of India especially after Afzal Guru’s hanging”, it said.
Thirty five mainstream politicians were moved from the Centaur hotel on the banks of the Dal lake to the MLA hostel in November 2019 and most of them have been released now while two others were booked under PSA and 10 are still lodged there.
These 10 leaders are: Shah Faisal, Naeem Akhtar, Irfan Shah, Ali Mohammad Dar, Peer Mansoor, Bilal Sultan, Mubarak Gul, Khursheed Alam, Tanvir Sadiq and Hilal Akbar Lone.
Sources, however, said that at least three of them Shah Faisal, Naeem Akhtar and Irfan Shah are likely to be booked under PSA while others may be released and kept under house arrest.
