SRINAGAR, Apr 7: After over eight months, former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti, was today shifted to her Gupkar residence.
She was shifted today after Government issued an order but will continue to remain detained under Public Safety Act (PSA).

“In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 10 (b) of Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978, the Government hereby orders change of lodgement of Mehbooba Mufti D/o Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed R/o Bijbehara A/P Nowgam Srinagar, detained by the District Magistrate Srinagar Vide order No. DMS/PSA/147/2020 dated 05-02-2020 read with corrigendum dated 06-02-2020 from Subsidiary Jail DMQ-6 Transport Yard, MA Road Srinagar to Subsidiary Jail Fairview, Gupkar Road, Srinagar with immediate effect”, read an order issued today by Principal Secretary Home Shaleen Kabra.
Earlier, Government in a separate order declared her residence Fairview, Gupkar Road, Srinagar as Subsidiary Jail.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (b) of Section 2 of the Prisoners Act, 1990, the Government hereby declares Fairview, Gupkar Road, Srinagar as “Subsidiary Jail”, the order said.
She was detained on August 5, last year, when the Centre abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories.
Former Chief Minister and National Conference vice president, Omar Abdullah in his tweet said that Mehbooba must be released fully. “@MehboobaMufti must be set free. Shifting her home while continuing to keep her detained is a cop out,” Omar tweeted.
