Mendhar College students protest, boycott classes

MENDHAR, Sept 4: Students of  Degree College Mendhar today boycotted their classes and staged protest demonstration after a professor of the college after being  hit by a vehicle, kept lying on the road side for long unattended.
Dr Mohd Farooq, HoD Botany was coming on his bike from Bhati Dhar to college in the morning. Near Sakhi Maidan he was hit by a  Tata Sumo at around 8.30 am. The vehicle sped from the spot after causing serious injuries to the professor. He kept lying there on the road side bleeding for long. Then some people noticed him lying there and shifted to hospital.
The students of the college came to know about the ‘hit and run’ case and boycotted  their classes  and started protest against Traffic and local police. They held protest demonstration demanding seizure of Sumo and arrest of driver. The victim was later referred to GMC Jammu. SDPO and SHO Mendhar then reached the college at around 12.30 pm and assured the students to trace vehicle. Later, the police seized the Sumo and arrested its driver Amjad Ali of village, Khera.
