MENDHAR, June 9: Strong resentment is brewing among the residents here against the failure of the authorities to undertake repair work on Mendhar- Poonch road.
The aggrieved local residents have demanded suspension of toll tax collection till the road is repaired. The condition of the road is so bad that most of the operators have stopped to ply their vehicles on this road.
The road at many places including Mendhar, Sakhi Maidan, Mankote, Sagra, Krishna Ghati, Salani and Chhatral is dotted with potholes posing risk of accidents.
The locals of Mendhar Ajaz Kohli, Kushal Ahmed and Anoop Bhatia said that the General Reserved Engineer Force (GREF) has failed to undertake even minor repairs of the vital road. The local Panchayat collects tax from the vehicles passing through the road maintained by the GREF, but nobody bothers about the maintenance.
Government should stop collection of toll tax till repairs of the road is undertaken, said another local resident stressing immediate repair of the road. He said if the GREF failed to undertake immediate repairs, they will launch an agitation against it.
