Meraj-e-Aalam celebrated with fervour

Srinagar, June 7: Meraj-e-Aalam was celebrated with religious fervour across the Kashmir valley today.
Thousands of Muslims thronged the Shrines and Masjids and held nightlong prayers. The largest gathering of devotees was witnessed at Hazratbal shrine, where thousands of people offered special prayers throughout the night.
Devotees from all parts of Kashmir thronged the Hazratbal Shrine to offer the congregational prayers in the day and waited to pay the glimpse of holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) after every prayer of the day.
Despite the hot weather, the rush of the devotees continued throughout the day with nearly 20,000 people offering congregational prayers early in the morning while over 50, 000 offered Friday prayers.
At the time of displaying holy relic, people burst into tears. Special prayers were held for the peace and prosperity of people.
On the occasion special service played on the roads leading towards Hazratbal Shrine. The administration had allowed only one-way traffic throughout the day to ensure smooth movement of traffic.
From Lal Chowk, buses were allowed to Hazrtabal through Nalamar, Hawal, and Lal Bazaar routes while those coming from Hazratbal to the Lal Chowk were allowed from Sadaikadal and Rainawari route.
Various departments as well as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) had made arrangements for devotees. Some of the organizations had erected stalls where juices and beverages were offered to the devotees during the course of the day.
People also visited local Masjids and shrines to offer night long prayers.
