Srinagar, Dec 9: The poor visibility at Srinagar airport disrupted air traffic leading to cancellations of afternoon flights while night temperatures across Kashmir remained sub-zero.
Three flights of GoAir, Indigo and Vista landed at Srinagar airport this morning while 14 other flights were cancelled due to fog and poor visibility. Majority of the passengers boarded the taxis from the airport and left for Jammu by road.
The poor visibility at Srinagar airport caused flight disruptions for last over a fortnight causing problems for the travellers.
In the meantime, the Meteorological Department has forecast isolated rains across Kashmir valley and snowfall in the higher reaches for at least two days from Saturday.
Leh recorded as the coldest place in the State with a minimum temperature of minus 11.5 degree Celsius. The night temperature plummeted by over 8 degrees from minus 3.0 degree Celsius in Leh.
The night temperature across Kashmir division, except Gulmarg, continued to remain below the freezing point due to dry weather conditions in the State.
Srinagar recorded the minimum of minus 3.4 degree Celsius, slightly up from the previous nights’ minus 3.7 degree Celsius.
Kupwara, in North Kashmir, was the coldest place in the region as the mercury settled at the low of minus 4.9 degree Celsius. Pahalgam hill resort in South Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.6 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg was the only place where night temperature was recorded above freezing point at 1.0 degree Celsius.
Qazigund town in South Kashmir registered the minimum of minus 3.2 degree Celsius while the nearby Kokernag town recorded the low of minus 2.2 degree Celsius, he said.
Srinagar recorded maximum day temperature of 9.6 degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time of the year is 10 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded 14.8 degree Celsius, Kupwara 11.4 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 11 degree Celsius and Leh 11.5 degree Celsius.
