Avalanche hits Paddar village

SRINAGAR/ JAMMU, Jan 27: An Avalanche hit Machail Mata village in Paddar area of Kishtwar today while weatherman today said that mainly dry weather will prevail in Kashmir and most of the areas in Jammu region till Sunday and has forecast wet weather for Monday.
Official sources said that an avalanche hit Machail village in remote Padder area of district Kishtwar today but no loss of life or any major damage to the public property or government was reported.
The avalanche rolled into a river near a hamlet in Machail village. The Mata temple and habitation was at some distance away the effected area. An avalanche warning had already been issued by the authorities for some higher reaches of Kishwar, Ramban and Doda.
A Meteorological Department official forecast mainly dry weather for the next 24 hours and said that light to widespread rain and snow was likely from January 29th night-30.
Srinagar recorded a low of 1.2°C, the same as last night. Today’s minimum temperature was above normal by 2.2°C for the city.
Qazigund recorded a low of minus 0.6°C against minus 0.4°C on the previous night and it was 3.5°C above normal for the town.
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 4.3°C against minus 2.4°C on the previous night and it was 1.8°C above normal for the tourist resort.
Kokernag recorded a low of minus 0.9°C against minus 0.6°C on the previous night and it was 1.7°C above normal for the place.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 8.6°C against minus 10.4°C on the previous night and it was 1.1°C below normal for the skiing resort.
In Kupwara town mercury settled at minus 3.7°C against minus 1.7°C on the previous night and it was above 1.2°C below normal for the town.
Leh recorded a low of minus 11.2°C.
