MeT predicts more rains in Valley

SRINAGAR, Aug 28: Moderate rains lashed Kashmir for the fourth consecutive day with Meteorological Department predicting more rains this week.
A Meteorological Department official said that the moderate rains continued throughout day across Valley and plunged day temperature by several notches. He said there is forecast of ‘fairly widespread rainfall’ on Monday. “Later on from Tuesday, there is forecast of scattered and isolated rains,” he said.  The rains have given rise to chill in morning and evening hours and people have started putting up warm clothes.
The official said the day temperature in Srinagar witnessed a dip by nearly four notches due to continued downpour. The official said that the Srinagar recorded 18.2 degree celsius maximum temperature against yesterday’s 22.9 while the minimum temperature settled at 15.8 degree Celsius. The temperature in other parts of the Valley also witnessed dip and remained below the normal temperature.
According to the MeT official, Qazigund recorded 18.5 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 15.6 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded 15.8 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 13.7 degree Celsius. The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded 11.4 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at 9.0 degree Celsius.
Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded 17.6 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 14.3 degree Celsius minimum temperature. The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 19.2 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 14.6 degree Celsius. Leh, which is also called cold desert, recorded a 27.0 degree Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature remained at 16.3 degree Celsius. The day temperature in Kargil settled at 25.2 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 13.8 degree Celsius
The MeT official said that there is possibility of light rain/thundershowers in Srinagar in next 24 hours. “Maximum & Minimum temperatures will be around 21°C and 15 °C respectively,” he said.
