Metro Rail will prove big bonanza for UT: Balbir

JAMMU, Oct 18: The recent announcement by the visiting Union Minister of Pertoleum & National Gas, Housing & Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri that Metro Rail Project for Jammu and Kashmir will be approved within a week’s time, will obviously prove to be a big bonanza for this UT as it would be adding one more public service for the convenience of the people.
In a handout, J&K BJP spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, while commenting on the visits of the Union Ministers under ‘Public Outreach Programmes’ of Narendra Modi government said the programme is aimed at reaching the people in each and every nook and corner of this erstwhile State for direct interactions and on the spot assessment of the demands and needs and take appropriate decisions to meet the aspirations of the people.
Balbir said that while Puri made announcement regarding grant of approval for Metro Rail Project, other Union Ministers, who have visited J&K in last few months, too have announced various projects of development, education, healthcare, promotion of tourism etc. All this has sent a very loud and clear message that J&K, as UT, directly under the Union Ministry, is not going to be ignored in any matter at any level and that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s development model also emphasis that the benefits of every Centrally-sponsored scheme should reach directly to be beneficiaries.
Balbir further said that the J&K’s Metro, to be operational by 2024, with 23 kilometer length in Jammu and 25 kilometer length in Srinagar, will serve as one more means of travel, thus lessen traffic rush and congestion in both the cities.
He said that the Metro Rail has proved to be most effective in transporation having very high capacity carriers and journey hours very less as compared to road travel, besides being eco-friendly, no pollution of air and much less noise and expressed hope that the Metro Rail starts running within the stipulated time and it will be further milestone in realizing the dream of Smart City.
